Canggu and Berawa: a short guide for a first visit

Black-sand beaches, surf breaks, rice fields and cafés on Bali's west coast. What to know before you arrive.
Canggu sits on Bali's south-west coast, north of Seminyak. It grew from a quiet stretch of rice fields and surf breaks into one of the island's most popular places to stay, while keeping a relaxed village feel in its side streets.
The coastline is made of long black-sand beaches, with Berawa, Batu Bolong and Echo Beach among the best known. The surf works most of the year, and sunset along the shore is a daily ritual.
Berawa, at the southern end, is a little calmer and suits families and longer stays. Most cafés, restaurants and studios are a short ride away, and many guests get around by scooter or with a private driver.
Traffic around the main roads can be slow at busy times, so it helps to plan days around one area at a time. Our team can arrange transfers, drivers and experiences before you arrive.
